Artist-in-Residence: Sofie Gjuričová at Surfy Space

From 1 October to 30 November 2026, Czech architect and visual artist Sofie Gjuričová is in residence at Surfy Space in Luodong.
Based in Prague, Sofie’s work explores the political dimensions of architecture and urbanism. With Jasmína Lustigová, she makes short films on architectural topics, including Arkada (2023), Sauna (2024) and Returning to the Vampire Castle(2026). Her diploma thesis, Architecture of Crowds, examined how the spatial proximity of bodies in the built environment produces social inequality.
During her residency, she is developing a new video essay on the utopian undercurrents of market-driven urban design, from golf courses to duty-free zones and the tunnels beneath Las Vegas. She is also continuing her research into the politics of climate change and how architecture can adapt to it fairly, a question close to home on the warming island of Taiwan.
🗓 Residency: 2026.10.01 – 11.30
📍 Surfy Space, No. 73, Tianjin Rd., Luodong, Yilan
