Creative Wanderers: Experiments and Reflections on Artist Residencies

This talk explores artists' creative experiences across various settings such as tech companies, corporate organizations, and artist residencies. Each type of residency environment presents its own unique challenges and opportunities. Through cross-disciplinary experimentation, artists are prompted to rethink the role of art and the possibilities of artistic practice. Speaker Yen Tzu Chang will share her past residency experiences and reflect on how to maintain artistic autonomy while fostering cross-sector dialogue and innovation.

About Arthur Francietta:

Arthur Francietta, born in 1990 in Martinique, is a multidisciplinary artist and typographer based between Martinique and Paris. Francietta explores the connections between graphic systems, symbols, and cultural identities, drawing inspiration from Caribbean visual traditions and the interplay of written & oral transmission. His practice merges design research and artistic creation, examining signs, letters, and images, with the goal of establishing bridges towards Afro-Caribbean futurities.

About Yen Tzu CHANG:

Yen Tzu Chang (張晏慈) is a new media artist/new media art director/sound artist based in Taiwan. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the New Media Art Department of Taipei National University of the Arts. In 2018, she graduated with a master’s degree from the Interface Culture Department of the Kunstuniversität Linz in Austria.

For Yen Tzu Chang, artistic creation is exploring the essence of life with philosophy and science thinking. She combines art, programming, and technical media into her artworks, including interdisciplinary art and experimental performances based on sound installations.

Ready-made objects and DIY techniques are included in some of her pieces. The most important thing in her pieces is the concept of play, which refers to the interactivity and the transformation of the roles of participants.
