Olivier Marceny holds Master's degrees in Photography (Paris) and Film (New York), and has worked across music industry, advertising, film, and documentary as a photographer, cinematographer, editor, and director. In 2014, he moved to Taipei while working on Flowers of Taipei, shown at the Venice Film Festival. He later directed Arterial, supported by the 2015 Kaohsiung Film Grant, and now works as an architectural photographer across Asia. Olivier also develops personal projects on Taiwan’s urban environment, with solo exhibitions including The Forum (2022, Gallery 1839 Taipei) and 26 Seconds of Sun (2025) at the Keelung Arts Museum. He is currently collaborating with artist Germain Canon on a project about earthquakes in Taiwan.
Germain Canon (b.1989, Belgium) is an artist based in Taipei. Originally trained as an architect in Brussels, he uses writing, painting, and installations as medium to explore spaces which cannot be approached through standard architectural practice His early work was shaped by a 2019 visit to Onkalo, the world’s first nuclear waste repository, which resulting photographic series was shown in Taipei in 2019. His last solo exhibition, on unaffordable housing, was shown in Kaoshiung (Pier-2) in 2023.
駐村計畫
The Formosa residency at the Hyperwave space in Luodong is the opportunity to extend our work towards the East coast of Taiwan, and particularly the city of Hualien, which was recently hit by a major earthquake in April 2024. Our use of the residency space would be twofold: first as a base of operation from which to conduct our photographic documentation of the Quake’s latent presence in the area (and particularly its impact on tourism, through the “empty hotel rooms series”). In addition, we will use the physical space of the residency to experiment with our Quake-sensitive installations (the “Quake-Catchers”). Finally, we will take that opportunity to explore the area of Luodong, in the hope that its landscape can inspire out various projects.
